Back in June, we reported on 50 Cent’s outraged response to Taco Bell’s offer to donate $10,000 to the rapper’s favorite charity if he’d just upgrade his name by thirty cents or so for one day and order one of their craptastic Value Meals. Amazingly, Fiddy—or “Mr. Cent,” as he’s called in various legal documents that are floating around right now—followed through on his threat, and slapped Taco Bell with a $4 million lawsuit in July. Now Taco Bell is fighting back. The corporate insult to Mexican cuisine has filed a countersuit, using language that seems calculated to drive Mr. Cent bonkers:

…Taco Bell is calling 50 Cent’s suit as “another of Jackson’s attempts to burnish his gangsta rapper persona by distorting beyond all recognition the bona fide, good faith offer that Taco Bell made…. Jackson has used his colorful past to cultivate a public image of belligerence and arrogance and has a well-publicized track record of making threats, starting feuds and filing lawsuits.”

This whole legal fracas has me terribly confused. On the one hand, 50 Cent is quite the jerk, and watching him make a fool of himself in a highly public and costly manner is all good. On the other hand, I’m feeling a strange desire to order something from Taco Bell, and normally I’d be about as likely to swallow a live chihuahua. I should probably be grateful Fiddy didn’t pick this fight with Pizza Hut.
