80’s Crush Of The Week

By Agent Bedhead in Kiefer Sutherland, Pop Culture Mix, Vintage 80s Crushes

This week’s 80’s Crush is: Kiefer Sutherland

Birth Name: Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland

Birth Date: December 21, 1966

Age Today: 39

Birthplace: London, England, UK

80’s Crush Because: His portrayal of sexy vampire David in The Lost Boys (1987).

MMMMMMMMMMM, Kiefer. His distinctively throaty vampire voice taunted poor Jason Patric throught the movie with lines such as these:

“You don’t have to beat me, Michael. You just have to try and keep up.”

“How far you willing to go, Michael?”

“What, you don’t like rice? Tell me Michael how could a
billion Chinese people be wrong? Come on!”

“Drink some of this, Michael. Be one of us.”

Following the movie, Kiefer continued his friendship with his Lost Boys co-stars, but apparently Jason Patric decided to take out his character’s angst in retrospect. Kiefer was engaged to Julia Roberts until the whore decided to run off with his “good friend” (Patric) six days before she and Kiefer were to be married. Ouch.

First Real Acting Gig: First feature-film role in Max Dugan Returns (1983). A few years later, mainstream success found him alongside a still semi-sane Sean Penn in At Close Range (1986), as well as alongside the prepubescent mass of male hormones otherwise known as Stand By Me (1986).

Other Notable Rules: Bright Lights, Big City (1988), Young Guns (1988) and its sequel, Young Guns II (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992) (original title - A Few Sexy Heteros and their Latent Homo Buddy). Following is a photo of Kiefer as the medical student with a career-killing attraction to death in Flatliners (1990):

Role He Would Like To Forget: The absolutely horrendous The Cowboy Way (1994), complete with a requisite naked woody Harrelson covering his unit with a cowboy hat while strolling out to check the mail. As Chrissy would say, “Ish!”

Where Is He Now? Everywhere that the fight against terrorism takes Jack Bauer. Most recently, Kiefer starred in The Sentinel (2006), and his return to magazine covers started when he so skillfully screwed with Colin “Please Hand Me The Pantene” Farrell in Phone Booth (2002). This movie’s release was delayed slightly by the national threat in manner of the D.C. sniper shootings. This must have been a real downer after Fox pushed back the first season of 24 following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Eventually, Jack Bauer’s real-time television series made it to light, and the show continues into its 5th Season.

kiefer24.jpgInteresting Factoids: Kiefer claims that he’s computer illiterate. (2) His characters from Flatliners and 24 have similarly experienced heart failure and been brought back from the abyss - Jack Bauer (3) When working on a film, he often stays in character when on the set, even when the camera isn’t rolling. During the filming of Stand by Me, this resulted in some off camera faux-bullying of Wil Wheaton. Heh.

Still Crushin’?: Could Jack Bauer be any more of a sex symbol?

Crush Meter: 10 out of 10 - and newly single. Sigh.

As always, go check out the 80’s Crush over at the Ex-Donkey Blog - this week is the start of the post-March Madness tournament of the Babes!
