If you were making a case that geeks should never, ever try to be hip or badass, this might qualify as Exhibit A. A German band is now performing Eminem’s songs in the language best suited to his tender, caring sentiments. No, not German–that would just sound like Rammstein, only more articulate and melodic. Instead, Klenginem performs the songs in the original Klingon. As an example, you can listen to “Without Me” here. It sounds pretty much the way you imagined it would, if you’re the kind of person who’s ever spent a single microsecond wondering about this. And if you are, I truly pity you.
Klenginem’s lead vocalist–”real name” Quvar muHwI’valer–says the whole thing is a joke, although they seem dreadfully serious about it, and adds that the band is branching out into different genres of music. I’ll probably hold off on buying their albums until they tackle something truly challenging, like the whiniest power ballads of the Seventies. Listening to “Sometimes When We Touch” rendered into Klingon sounds like an experience that would really stir the blood.
