Jim Carrey has been annoying me for decades with his scorched earth, nuke-’em-from-orbit style of overacting, but offscreen he seemed like a nice enough guy. Mostly because he kept his mouth shut. Unfortunately, thanks to the magic of Twitter we all have a chance to get better acquainted with the real Jim Carrey, and it turns out he’s way too much like a Jim Carrey character. Most recently, Carrey shared his thoughts on Tiger Woods’ sex-monster infidelities–which, if not the worst subject in the world for a guy whose own marriage ended last week, has got to be a strong contender. From Carrey’s unique perspective, the whole mess was basically Elin’s fault:
No wife is blind enough to miss that much infidelity. Elin had 2 b a willing participant on the ride 4 whatever reason. kids/lifestyle

Notice how the emoticon takes the sting out of that statement and makes Jim sound like a funny, funny guy, instead of a complete dick. The comment didn’t go over well with the public, and over the weekend Carrey promised to Twitter only on “noncontroversial subjects” after his handlers met with him and discussed the option of chopping off his Twitter account, or possibly his thumbs. Meanwhile, here’s a mashup of Tiger’s latest Nike ad, where he gets some stern advice from Christian Bale. NSFW, but it still makes a helluva lot more sense than anything Carrey has to say on the subject.
