Incidentally, this shit is on the rise again and not just confined to the days of Christopher Columbus and Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage. A recent episode of “Californication” even featured a terrified Hank Moody (David Duchovny), who had discovered “a lump.” When Hank was informed that he merely had syphillis, he was all excited and shit. While it’s true that syphillis is easily treatable by a simple round of antibiotics, wtf?
