A nameless person, in passing, just asked why I wasn’t watching those damn Grammy Awards tonight. It actually never occurred to me to watch those awards cause I really don’t dig that kind of music. Further, the celebration of that monotonous fakery (with backing vocals!) pretty much bores the hell out of me. So, I thought this would be a great occasion to republish (along with out-of context imagery) Trent Reznor’s 2007 statement concerning this very same topic:
While the music industry is doing everything they possibly can to go out of business, can we all make sure to rid ourselves of the Grammys, too? Out of touch old men jacking each other off.
ENOUGH!
Have a nice day.
Now, before you think that Trent is whining in manner of Pete Wentz, that is most assuredly not the case. In fact, Nine Inch Nails has been nominated twelve times for Grammys and, in two instances, has actually taken home so-called top honours for “Wish” (1992) and “Happiness in Slavery” (1995). You see, Trent Reznor doesn’t care about these piece of crap awards that are basically a rah-rah cheer to celebrate the illusion of it all. What Reznor does care about is that the music industry is, at least for now, controlled by record companies that rip off both music fans and the artists in question. Generally speaking, musicians make little to nothing from record sales; it’s common knowledge that a musician grows rich only from touring, yet the whole “touring to support the album” myth still persists. So, the so-called music industry continues to rip off the artists and the fans, yet we’re all supposed to get excited about this awards show or something. That’s pretty damn insane. So, yeah. Fuck the Grammys.
