It seems only fair to balance out the news that some godawful board game is being made into a movie with some genuinely good news from the world of film, and this more than qualifies. According to Jeffrey Tambor, the film version of Arrested Development is now a go. Tambor broke the news in an interview with Collider. When asked if he was tired of being asked about the endless rumors regarding AD‘s appearance on the big screen, he gave this surprising response:
Well no, because we’re doing it. We are going. It’s a go. I actually just this week talked to Mitch Hurwitz, so we’re doing it.”
Tambor closed the interview by advising interviewer Steve Weintraub to “get your hopes up,” so he sounds fairly confident–and with good reason. In the past, rumors of an AD revival have always fizzled because Hurwitz, the series creator, wasn’t ready to sign on, so dropping his name qualifies as pretty big news. Granted, right now we’re only hearing this from Jeffrey Tambor. But let’s face it: if you can’t trust George Bluth Sr., then who can you trust?
