Bloody hell! The Inglourious Basterds press tour extravaganza has, literally, launched itself into a Blitzkrieg (see how I did that, mates?) for these last few days before the film opens. From my reading of the script and all other related research, Tarantino has, figuratively, changed the ending of WWII, at least, for purposes of catharticism. That’s nothing to scoff at when one considers not only the lingering effects of the Holocaust upon the Jewish but also generations of Germans who have continued, in an archetypal sense, to feel somewhat responsible for what occurred under the Third Reich.
As far as this final run of publicity goes, one can’t even hope to keep up with every Basterd-related appearance, whether for a poster giveaway & signing event or television/radio/web-based interview. Still, I’ve attempted to soak up as much of it as possible and am very much looking forward to this weekend’s opener.
