Time Magazine released its list of the world’s 100 most influential people Thursday. Mysteriously, this didn’t make the front page anywhere but Time Magazine. and if any of the people on this list are a serious influence on you, then you probably subscribe to Time and have other unfortunate qualities. More entertainingly,Time also released its list of the world’s 100 least influential people, and apparently the years of effort Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have spent toiling in the publicity vineyards of Southern California have finally paid off. The fun couple topped the list in the “Morons” category, although they would have fit just as easily into the three other categories–”Losers,” “Flameouts,” and “Slimy Bastards.” Time contributor Joel Stein was kind enough to provide commentary on the inductees, which is worth quoting in full:
Heidi Montag
Star of MTV’s The Hills
You used to be famous for being famous. Then you were famous for getting lots of plastic surgery and selling only 658 copies of your album in its first week. Now your’e not famous. That was fast.
Spencer Pratt
Boyfriend of Star of MTV’s The Hills
Montag fired him as her manager. It’s like we need a whole other list of the uninfluential to the uninfluential.
So Speidi managed to top a list that included fierce competition like Michael Jackson’s doctor and the president of the US Metric Association. At least they’ve got that going for them. Still, their “careers” seem to be sputtering to a close. Next year they probably won’t even qualify for the list of Least Influential People of 2011′ which will be positively meta.
