Credit where credit is due, I guess. While Americans are starting to fit more snugly into our plus-size national stereotype, British smiles are getting whiter. For whatever reason, Brits are finally becoming dissatisfied with the state of their choppers, and they’re ready to do something about it. Four out of five adults in one poll were embarrassed by their own smile, and fully half of them were considering some sort of cosmetic treatment. Of course, that sort of thing isn’t covered by National Health, and so more and more people are getting their teeth fixed outside the UK. Just don’t go to the dentist used by this woman, who went to Hungary to get her crappy National Health denture replaced with a bridge and is probably going to end up losing all her teeth. Oddly enough, I don’t recall hearing much one way or the other about Hungarian dental stereotypes.
So, one step forward on the British side of the pond, and on this side one step back. Of course, popular culture on both sides of the Atlantic is still largely a morass of suckitude, so in the end I guess we’re both pretty much even.
