It’s common knowledge that Hollywood is out of ideas. But compared to Broadway, Tinseltown is absolutely gravid with creativity. Proof, if more were needed, is the imminent arrival of Spider-Man: The Musical!, which is expected to open next year. The show’s music is by Bono and the Edge, which means that U2 is only one bad career move away from an extended run at Caesar’s Palace. Casting is still in process, with no word yet on who’s playing who.
I can foresee a whole series of problems with this concept, starting with the fact that the title character wears a mask that covers his mouth. On the other hand, we might see Kirsten Dunst cast as Peter Parker’s love interest. I don’t really share the Dunst-hate, but seeing her get all but booed off the stage just like she was in Spider-Man 3 would be an interesting case of art imitating life. Or, in this case, bad art imitating slightly better art.

Almost every Broadway musical ever made was adapted from some other source. Either other plays, books, comic strips, movies, and recently TV shows.
Okay, that’s a valid point. Maybe I’m getting a little burned out on comic books being the source material for musicals, movies, computer games, TV shows, and pretty much everything else.
When you get burned out on comic books, just switch to graphic novels. As in, Vertigo graphic novels.
