Network television just keeps getting better and better. Fox TV is conspiring with the people responsible for Joe Millionaire and Temptation Island to bring you When Women Rule the World. Now that they’ve explored the possibilities of race war on Survivor, this is the predictable next step, but why not let Mark Darnell explain the concept:

You take 12 attractive women who feel like it’s still a man’s world and who think they’ve hit a glass ceiling, and you give them their own society to run. Then you take 12 macho, chauvinistic guys who also think men rule the world and see how they survive in a world where they’re literally manservants . . . . They’ll have to obey every command from the women.

Here’s an especially nice touch: “The women will eliminate one manservant each week, trading him for supplies needed to build their island society.” In other words, it’s the premise of who knows how many awful Amazon Women movies, from the aforementioned Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death to the 1950s classic Wild Women. For my money, the best in the genre was a movie I can’t even find a link for, the 1980 Filipino extravaganza Mysterious Island of Castrating Women. In that movie the Amazons were man-hating lesbians who castrated any man who fell into their clutches and put them to work as fieldworkers and beasts of burden. Every day the women would ride through the fields and throw the men their daily ration, a paltry meal consisting of a banana and two hard-boiled eggs. The men would unwrap the package, look at it, and burst into tears. I guess we’ll find out if Fox has the (*ahem*) balls to go there. As it were.
