Although I meant to provide some coverage of exactly how well The Libertines (and Guns ‘n’ Roses) fared at last weekend’s Reading/Leeds festival, I’ve sort of dropped the ball until now. As it happens, The Libertines show went off fully as planned and predicted, and the above video (shockingly) shows the band in top form (with Pete Doherty surveying the crowd with a mixture of joy and regret at recapturing what had he previously thrown away for his enduring love affair with the needle). However, it seems that Carl Barat enjoyed himself far too much; so much, in fact, that he refused to change his clothing for days afterwards:
Carl Barat was doing some promotional work in Brussels on Tuesday and made a point of telling journalists who interviewed him that he still had on the clothes he was wearing on stage from Reading/ Leeds as he had not yet had time to change.
Of course, being a 21st century rock and roll star, he took it as a chance to brag and said. “Yeah, I’m still dressed like how you saw me on the YouTube videos of my Reading show.”
Not that Belgum would be particularly impressed by an unwashed Englishman, but at least Carl and the boys carried off an impressive reunion show; that is, unlike Axl and the rest of Fake Guns ‘n’ Roses, who took the stage over an hour late and then cut the show short. They sure don’t make rock stars like the used to, eh mates?
