The wildly successful Twitter site Shit My Dad Says has gotten — I don’t know, 18 kajillion visits or something like that — so it was inevitable that there’d be talk of turning it into a TV show. This sounds dangerously similar to a long-running clip show called The Best of All in the Family, but it just got a little more potentially awesome with the news that William Shatner will play the dad.
Honestly, after Donald Trump dropped out of the running, you couldn’t ask for more appropriate casting. In most dictionaries published after 2005, the definition for “aging blowhard” has no words, just a picture of William Shatner taken any time in the last few years. Unfortunately, it’s not all good news. The pilot script for the series is written by Justin Halpern, the website’s creator (that’s good news), and executive produced by the creators of Will and Grace (not so good). Finally, the series has been greenlighted by CBS, and I can’t see the Tiffany Network carrying a series with a big splotch of poo in the title. Most likely it will air as Thats My Dad! or something equally bland.
