If ever you needed surrealistically vivid proof that Holywood is really, truly, one hundred percent out of ideas, here it is: the board game Monopoly is being made into a movie. And that’s not even the surreal part. Guess who’ll be directing this awesomely misguided project? That’s right (actually, I’ll bet the rent you guessed wrong), it’s…. Ridley Scott. The director says he wants to give the movie a futuristic look, “along the lines of Blade Runner,” and goes on to say, “somewhere in [the fun of the game] is a hysterically amusing and I think rather exciting film.” Clearly he sees possibilities in this notion that escape the rest of us.
Adding a final twist to this story, Hasbro sees its stable of board games as a property much like the superheroes in the Marvel or DC universe, and is planning to adapt Battleship and Ouija Board for the big screen as well. Of course, this depends on the success of Monopoly: The Movie, which hardly looks like a sure thing, given the near-total lack of human characters in the game. Although Mike Myers’ breakout performance as the Cat in the Hat makes him a strong contender for the role of the Scottie. Come to think of it, the flatiron might be the role Keanu Reeves was born to play.

This is a good idea how? is Ridley going to blow up Park Avenue?

That sounds more like the Brett Ratner version of Monopoly: The Movie. What Scott’s going to do with this turkey beats the hell out of me.
Little-known fact: Malice was, in fact, based on the board game Operation. “Take out…torsed ovary!”

I checked the calendar…it’s not April 1.
WTF?
Maybe I should check again…
Is this McDonald’s buying advertising for their version of Monopoly?
