Demi Moore: Wishful Thinking

Demi Moore

Demi Moore constantly bitches about the disadvantages of being an older woman in Hollywood, yet she seems to talk about little else other than how great she looks for her age. Moore poses for photo spreads that could be used to illustrate her skills as an actress, but instead, these images emphasize both the powers of sex appeal and the strength of airbrushing as an art. She seems to be screaming, “I’ve had all the surgeries, dammit, now give me the roles!” As if looking good were all that it takes.

Roger Friedman gathered some insight from the Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Phillippe split that is largely applicable to age “discrimination” in Hollywood:

The sad thing is they are both nice people. But they are also young; Ryan is 32, Reese just 30. They could never have calculated her stratospheric success.

But actresses tend to hit their stride early, with tougher times after 40. For men, it’s the opposite. In five years, Ryan could be a perennial best actor nominee.

But the early 30s — with the exception of Leonardo DiCaprio, thanks to “Titanic” [sic] — is the hunker-down time for most young actors. They’re too young for the good roles and too old for the teen ones.

So, both sexes are feeling the temporl burn, but not everyone is whining about it. Yes, Demi, you look fabulous, but what else can you do?

Puhleeze!

There have been fabtastic roles for ‘older’, less fit, women in the past few years:

The Queen
Brigitte Jones (sp)
Cold Mountain
The Devil Wears Prada
etc…etc…etc…

Oh! Wait…I forgot, Demi is no Helen Mirren, nor Meryl Streep, nor Nicole Kidman, nor Shirley Maclaine, nor Mary Steenburgen, nor Gena Rowlands, nor Sandra Bullock, nor Julianne Moore, nor, well, almost any other ‘older’ woman.

Of course, roles like ‘Striptease’ don’t come around every day.

Oh, I forgot…

nor Diane Lane, nor Meg Ryan, nor Judi Densch, nor Naomi Watts, nor several of the Desperate Housewives, nor Candace Bergen, nor Signourney Weaver…

Did she really think people would take her more seriously if she got a pair of ridiculous bolt-on tits? I can’t imagine marrying Dorky McDork on his 18th birthday helped either.

She is gorgeous, yes. And she has a sexy voice. Judging by these pictures, maybe she’s in the right town but in the wrong industry.

Um, what exactly is she doing in that large picture?

Shoot, I remember when she was Jackie Templeton on General Hospital! Twenty some years ago!!!

As if looking good were all that it takes.

Well, there is a film industry in that part of the country where looking good (and having a pair of bolt on tits) is all you need. Demi does Dallas anyone?
