Considering how disappointing the third Terminator film was compared to its predecessors, the news of a return of the Cyberdyne Systems T-800 Model 101 doesn’t much thrill us:
The Terminator will be back, thanks to a new takeover by entrepreneurs Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson. The pair have bought the rights to the film franchise, which has already scored three blockbuster hits, from producers Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar, and they’re planning to have a fourth film in cinemas by 2009.
Arnold himself will not reprise his role in the sequels, but he has granted studio Halycon a license to include his likeness in the fourth Terminator film. So, audiences will make do with computer-altered stock images of Arnold in T4 as well as his guaranteed involvement in at least two additional sequels. According to representative Annabelle Gross, “He’s signed on as executive producer for all three pictures, and we are in talks for further appearance licensing.”
T4 will reportedly concern John Connor’s futuristic war against the machines, which will be a hard sell, considering the original appeal of The Terminator depended heavily upon the future unknown.
