We once detailed Pete Doherty’s thoughts on the relationship between Oasis and Umberto Eco, but now things have taken a slightly creepier quasi-philosophical turn. A current exhibition at Art de Caf includes a series of pastels that depict a dead Doherty. As one can see, one of the works shows Doherty wearing an adorable little red hat that takes its cues from Dante Alighieri’s super bitchin’ roadtrip to hell. Scottish artist Peter Howson attempts to explain his famewhoring rationale:
Pete Doherty is someone who has really interested me over the last few months. His spiral downwards reminds me of what I went through myself and I can identify with the way he is acting. Me wanting to paint him dead was pointing the finger at him and saying, “You can influence a whole generation.” He could, if he wanted to, become the right kind of hero.
Yeah, whatever. In the meantime, a more amusing quote comes from Doherty’s spokesperson:
Peter Howson has never met Pete as far as I am aware, so I don’t know where he’s getting his inspiration from. We have not seen the drawings and I don’t see how Peter knows that much about Pete’s lifestyle.
That so-called inspiration would be called “common knowledge,” bitch.
In more typical Doherty news, our favourite junkie wastrel caused a mild kertuffle by showing up three hours late to his Paris solo gig. A late Eurostar train was blamed for the incident. In the meantime, Pete Doherty and his Babyshambles have announced three club shows closer to home. Tickets are £20 per show, and Pete will probably show up late for those shows as well. As a bonus, you might get to hear Pete joke about becoming delayed while burying a cat roadside. Shortly afterwards, PETA will haul him offstage and beat the living crap out of him, which will be followed by Pete’s publicist issuing an “only joking”-styled press release. Bloody hell, mates. Why don’t you just go and get a sense of humour?

He didn’t even draw those bloody gorgeous and sexily crooked teeth, without them, that might as well be a drawing of Rumer Willis.
