In the latest campaign for Agent Provocateur, Maggie Gyllenhaal follows in the high-heeled footsteps of Kylie Minogue, Dita Von Teese, and most recently, Kate Moss. However, Maggie is the only one of these ladies who can include the phrase, “repeatedly spanked by James Spader” in her resume. Perhaps that’s a good indicator of why Maggie’s adverts will be marketed as “The Adventures of Miss A.P.” instead of the vagaries inherent in Kate’s “Miss X” moniker from last season.
Serena Rees, co-founder of Agent Provocateur, said: “Maggie is not an obvious sex symbol.”
“She is interesting looking, confident and beautiful in a way that is non-threatening, which makes her appealing to men and women alike.”
In just a few days, Maggie’s first booklet, Lessons In Lingerie shall commence upon crashing the Agent Provocateur server.

I have no use for this bimbo. She said that the US was responsible “in some way” for 9/11 at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2005. She followed that up (after people were predictably angry) with a non-apology apology that she shouldn’t talk about politics at award ceremonies. Well, we agree on that at least. She could also pull her head out of her ass, but I don’t expect that to happen.
Maggie’s a political cretin, but so are 98 percent of the people in entertainment. She’s cute and a competent actress, and as long as she keeps her idiocy-hole shut about politics at awards ceremonies or anyplace else I can enjoy her work.
According to the Times, this whole campaign is intended to set up Maggie as a sex object for women, not men. Check out the article:

I expect I could learn to overlook her political leanings long enough.

fugly is the new sexy
I’m not so sure about “cute” either, but I realize these things are pretty subjective. There’s something kind of creepy about her. I’d probably hit it anyway, especially after a couple beers — but that’s hardly a rousing endorsement for an aspiring sex symbol.
I think she is quirky-pretty and was very hot in Secretary, but I won’t argue about the subjectivity of beauty except to say that Maggie is much more appealing than, say, Paris Hilton or Britney Spears.
As to politics, if I crossed celebrities out whenever their ideology pissed me off, I’d have no one left to write about. That is the main reason why we at least try for the appearance of frivolity around here.
