Edward Norton Smash!

Edward Norton, otherwise known as the skinny ex-boyfriend of Courtney Love, has been cast by Marvel Studios as Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk. This bit of news makes no sense whatsoever, but I am learning that where movies are concerned, common sense is a useless matter:

“Edward Norton is a rare talent and one of the most versatile actors in the business,” Marvel Studios production president Kevin Feige said in a statement. “His ability to transform into a particular role makes him the ideal choice to take on the character of Bruce Banner and the Hulk. Edward is perfectly suited to bring one of the most popular and important Marvel icons to the bigscreen in a new and exciting way.”

Yes, considerably. Norton’s ability to transform from a wimpy boy who was molested by a priest in Primal Fear to actually playing the role of a wimpy priest in Keeping The Faith clearly demonstrates his ability to play all sorts of wimpy male characters. In addition, he also totally got his ass kicked in Fight Club and cowered behind a thin veil of constitution in The People vs. Larry Flynt.

Hmm, so perhaps Edward is merely an actor who chooses to play the role of the little guy, and he just wants to burst out of his little clam shell. Work with me here, people. So just paint Edward green, and he’s The Incredible Hulk. Or paint him red, and he’s the Kool-Aid Man. The possibilities are endless.

He looks a lot like Bill Bixby, who played Dr. Bannon in the TV series. Of course, on TV the Hulk was played by Lou Ferrigno. And with all due respect, Ed just doesn’t have the same acting range as Lou Ferrigno.

I’m cool with the fact neither you or Mr. Atoz like him. I on the other hand totally disagree. Edward Norton rocks. I loved him in Fight Club; the way he kicked the shit out of himself in the final scenes had me totally mesmerized. I also loved his split personality role in Primal Fear. To me he is Versatile and talented and I’ll be looking forward to his portrayal of Dr. Bruce Banner.

Uh, wait a second. Didn’t they already make “The Hulk”? With Ang Lee directing?

And wasn’t it a flop?

(Even though it really wasn’t. It was actually one of the better comic book based films that came out, and was very visually interesting.)

I don’t quite get why they’d get a second go-round, though. Do they really think that Ed can bring something to it that Eric “His Hotness” Bana couldn’t?
