Give the girl credit for working fast. Just weeks after breaking up with Marilyn Manson, Evan Rachel Wood has found a new boyfriend who’s even more neurotic and wears even sillier outfits. But at least he possesses the saving virtue of not being utterly useless. After months of rumors, Evan confirmed she’ll be playing Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming Spiderman musical. The show will be directed by Julie Taymor, who earned serious Broadway cred by directing the highly successful Lion King. She also directed Wood in Across the Universe, and Wood confirmed that they’re trying to get her co-star from that movie to play the title role in the project:
We’re trying to convince Jim Sturgess (her “Across the Universe” costar). We did the workshop together, but I don’t know if he can commit to a whole year.”
The show’s not due to open for months, but considering the current climate on Broadway, “a whole year” sounds more than a little optimistic. Still, anyone who gets a seat for the dozen or so shows before the musical’s inevitable closing will probably get to see an interesting production that might well not suck, particularly since Evan insists that Spiderman most definitely will not sing in costume. You’ll notice, however, that she said absolutely nothing about dancing.

Good for her, she finds a new boyfriend in just a short period of time and also she’s a part of a show.
