In the gossip-obsessed world that we live in, it’s amusing to know that even gorgeous starlets are naive about certain aspects of human interaction. Scarlett Johansson, despite her recent engagement to Ryan Reynolds, seems to have crushed a bit on a certain politico, and she makes it a point to tell the world that she and Barack Obama are exchanging emails on a regular basis:

His replies have been thoughtful, she says, more than a brief line or two; on the ABC debate, he responded that the questioning was “difficult” and he was being pounded on “one silly question after another.”

Johansson is somewhat shocked that he keeps up their back-and-forth correspondence. “You’d imagine that someone like the senator who is constantly traveling and constantly ‘on’ — how can he return these personal e-mails?” she asks. “But he does, and in his off-time I know he also calls people who have donated the minimum to thank them. Nobody sees it, nobody talks about it, but it’s incredible.” She adds, “I feel like I’m supporting someone, and having a personal dialogue with them, and it’s amazing.”

Yeah, it’s amazing that a heterosexual male would take the time to respond to a super-luxe-bodied Hollywood starlet.

I’m so bloody opposed to getting political on this blog, so I hesitate to actually discuss this matter, but Ace (quoting from here) does have a point — any hetero dude would be crazy not to exchange emails with a willing ScarJo, and she’s pretty naive not to realize this fact. However, in ScarJo’s defense, hey, I’ve been there — not with Barack Obama — but I understand why she feels flattered that a man of intellect, without apparent regard to her hotness, would maintain a mutual email discussion about actual, concrete issues. It must certainly be of slight comfort to believe that a prominent male of influence would care to discuss anything with her despite the fact that he is not staring directly at her boobies. Of course, the dude could actually be staring at a picture of her boobies, but whatever.
