Even The Vampires Look Like Douchebags

By Agent Bedhead in Film, Male Whores

On July 29th, Lost Boys: The Tribe will go straight to DVD racks, and this omission from theaters will perhaps lessen the death blow simultaneously dealt to the the 1987 goodness of The Lost Boys. That sound you just heard is my little black heart shattering.

Altogether, the level of suck in this film should be remarkable. Perhaps the most notable casting inclusion is Angus Sutherland as Shane. As a relation to Kiefer Sutherland, Angus is, presumably, from the douchier end of the Sutherland family tree. In all seriousness though, Angus is actually the younger half-brother of Kiefer, and, apart from a vague resemblance of the mouth/chin/smirk, it’s pretty difficult to believe these guys are even half-siblings. Angus has been described within an IMDB forum as “like Kiefer but with [an] extra chromosome.” Obviously, this guy was cast for novelty effect and mostly because of Kiefer’s role as David in the first film.

Interestingly, Corey Haim still appears in the film’s credits as the Sam Emerson character, but in all of the film stills for Lost Boys: The Tribe, Haim is conspicuously absent. His rumoured on-set meltdown (complete with cocaine hoovering) may indicate that the Haimster’s admittedly brief appearance ended up on the cutting room floor, or perhaps his scene(s) were never filmed at all.

Other casting highlights include Tom Savini (wtf?) as Van Etten, Evan Allen as himself (Meathead Sax Player), and some peachy keen character names: Latex Girl, Screaming Girl, & Garlic Salesman.

Naturally, the Frog brother characters are definitely back, with Corey Feldman as Edgar and Jamison Newlander as Alan. From these stills, I have to wonder whether Corey Feldman could possibly be any more of a tool?

This is just SO wrong. Hollywood needs to quit hijacking all the best flix from our youth and remaking them poorly. We’re young enough to remember the originals, and not old enough to instantly forget the sequels.

I have high hopes for this project. Except for the part how it is going to suck hard.

Sad. Just sad.

The only redeeming feature of this project would be if the poster had the tagline - They Suck!

I saw it the other night.
The Haim was present (briefly) but no Jamison Newlander in sight.
It was not very good.
