Not really, of course. Courtney Love is still Frances Bean Cobain’s biological mother. Just not her mother in any real legal sense. For the second time, a Los Angeles court has stripped Courtney of custody of her daughter and assigned temporary guardianship of Frances to her late father’s mother and younger sister. The court didn’t offer any explanation for the move, and an attorney who is in no way involved with the case offered this vacuous comment:

This doesn’t necessarily mean that Courtney Love is an unfit mother and has completely lost custody…. It’s too early to say. It could be because she’s simply going out of state for a long period of time.

Well, that’s one possibility. Or the decision might have something to do with the fact that Courtney is a financial disaster whose Facebook postings are so disturbingly psychotic that Frances would probably be safer if she were being raised by Siegfried and Roy’s man-eating tigers. Could go either way, really. But soon this will all be moot. In less than a year Frances will turn 18, and she can start establishing her own adult identity, hopefully at a considerable distance from her remarkably unfortunate mom.
