Normally I’m no big fan of Alanis Morisette, but she gets some points for her satirical cover of BEP’s “My Humps.? Unlike the original it’s fairly listenable, even if the song is performed in the trademark drearily earnest Morissette style. Moreover, Alanis appears to be poking fun at her own style, proving for the first time that a) Alanis Morisette has a sense of humor; and b) someone finally explained to her what “ironic” means. Well played, Ms. Morisette.
To make this even more of a feel-good story, we now have Fergie’s response to the send-up. By all accounts Fergie liked Alanis’ take-off quite a lot. According to the usual unnamed source: “Fergie thought the video was brilliant. She sent Alanis a cake in the shape of a derrière.” The original owner of the Lovely Lady Lumps had the cake inscribed, “Alanis, you’re a genius. Love, Fergie.”
So now we’ve got two people, who regularly get mocked in the gossip blogs for the usual assortment of celebrity misdeeds, treating each other with maturity and a little bit of humor. If this becomes a trend, we’ll have to give up gossip blogging and find something else to write about. Not that I expect this to become a trend.
