Eli Roth, who has recently aligned himself with, how do you say, an inauspicious organization, now partially redeems himself with this rather hilarious, so-called “Oscar campaign” video for Nation’s Pride (it’s part of Inglourious Basterds, and if you haven’t seen it by now, perhaps you should just, uh, get the fuck out of here). Featured within this clip is war hero Fredrick Zoller (Daniel Brühl), along with faux commentary from Joseph Goebbels (Sylvester Groth) and Francesca Mondino (the stunningly gorgeous Julie Dreyfus). As for Roth, he comically takes on the persona of director Alois Von Eichberg, who reminds me a lot of an ingenious Willem Dafoe character that directs a WWII scene in rural France while screaming, “I’m trying to create art here!” Dafoe’s interpretation, of course, was rendered even more brilliant because his character was actually directing a yogurt commercial. No sweetened dairy delights shall be found in Nation’s Pride… but there is a handsome German soldier with a shitload of ammunition. Good times, mates.
