By now, you undoubtedly know that director Roman Polanski (Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown) was arrested by Swiss officials on the authority of a U.S. arrest warrant. This surprise development comes 31 years after Polanski pled guilty in a child sex case but fled the U.S. on the night before sentencing. Of course, dude’s an artist (and a genius one at that), but this isn’t about Polanski’s professional accomplishments or any of his previous hardships. It’s also not about his religion or godlike status in Hollywood. Unfortunately, that’s the exact attitude coming from many of his colleagues and admirers.
Some would say that the Los Angeles prosecutors are only out to make an example of Polanski merely because he is famous. Yet the reality is that any ordinary citizen would have already received and endured punishment for the same crimes. If anything, Polanski’s privileged status is what has allowed him decades of protection after fleeing like a coward. And, still, he is defended and celebrated not only in spite of but also because of this.
He had sex like a man but ran like a little boy. Then, he bought off the victim in exchange for her acquiescence. Twice. Any of you so-called feminists who can defend this sort of bullshit should be ashamed of your own hypocrisy.

Actually, he had sex more like a 13 year old boy. A creepy one, with access to pharmaceuticals.
PS is that Shaft in the background? How did he let him get away?
it sickens me how the wealthy and famous are allowed to live by different rules than the rest of us. go Switzerland! you produced more than the great Roger Federer. you had guts where the French were just anti-American idiots. i hope this guy does jail-time both for what he did and for evading responsibility for so long.
Shaft!
sex with a 13 years old teen is bad and illegal even if you’re a genius movie maker
Polanski is guilty and should burn, but its so shady how it all went down, that he was allowed to work all summer in Switzerland but was only arrested this week, just blinking odd.
How ever, I cant help but feel like if Polanski is guilty, then so is Jacko, dead or not.
Strange, I haven’t heard any feminists defending Polanski’s crime or sympathizing with his arrest, even die-hard fans of his movies (like me). In fact, just the opposite–here’s a great round-up of how the feminist blogosphere is reacting:

What am I missing?
Care to post a link to the “feminists” that are arguing against his being punished? I’m not sure I’m getting what you’re referencing.

This reaction is a nice break from the commenters at HuffPo insisting, “He’s suffered enough, let him goooo!”
Thank you, Agent Bedhead.
This post should be cross-referenced with the moobs post from the other day.
The son-of-a-bitch was allowed to live a life of wealth and fame due to his cowardice.
Fuck his hardship. Any one of us can point to someone near to us who has suffered and they damned sure weren’t sexually abusing children in the interim.
Fuck him.
ha.
T’s comment caused a sudden flash of the Hollywood dimwits running about in Che’-style t-shirts plastered with Polanski’s face.
As horrendous as the crime was, the girl’s mother sent her there in order to help her “career” she was the wannabee Dina Lohan of her day and did the same inappropriate thing with the older sister too, as bad as it was that Polanski drugged and anally assaulted her while she begged him to stop, as bad as it was he fled to France and continued to enjoy his career and success – the real kicker to this is that his first “relationship” post rape was with Natasha Kinski, who was 15, he was nearly 40.
Polanski is and was a pedophile who was unapologetic about his pedophilia and flaunted it for the rest of his life. He will be sent back and he will do some time now that he has been arrested – it was hubris and arrogance that finally got him in the end.
I feel for the victim – she’s had to relive this whole thing various times during her adult life and it’s like she’s raped all over again and she just wants this to go away, I can’t blame her. Being rape once was enough and for her this never ends.
With the exception of Chinatown and Rosemary’s Baby, his movies suck.
Repulsion was interminable and the most boring pretentious thing I have EVER sat through. I couldn’t stand Deneuve or her retarded zombie face after that movie. The Pianist was the most tedious holocaust film I’ve ever sat through, and only won because holocaust movies around the Holidays always win oscars for someone. (Anyone coul’ve stumbled through Brody’s dull performance, which was neither oscar worthy.)
Moreover it never occured to me before that Chinatown and Rosemary’s Baby made Polanski above the law, well at least if he mentions the holocaust enough.
