I must confess that I know little (and care even less) about cars, but let me draw from common knowledge for a moment. Injecting nitrous oxide into a car’s engine will substantially improve its speed and performance. However, since this chemical compound also damages engines, it reduces the overall longevity of the vehicle. Some academics hypothesize that something similar occurs in the brain of geniuses, which quite possibly explains the high correlation with insanity. Under this theory, genius is an overdrive mode of mental function that while granting the ability to make intellectual leaps of logic and create magnificent things, it comes at a price. The minds of geniuses are never allowed to relax into neutral gear, as these folks seldom experience anything resembling calm thought. Is this the true source of insanity?
Perhaps this theory holds its place rightfully, but I posit another explanation for insanity.
Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff: Also the title of a nausiatingly cheery self-help book of rubbish. The little things are what bother us the most, and ignoring them would most certainly aggregate into an insurmountable mess. So yes, most of us sweat the most minute details – otherwise most of us would never utter the following cliche – It’s the little things that kill.
