It always seems like the same crappy comedies keep hitting the movie theaters — an endless parade of Will Ferrell in tight pants and Drew Barrymore as a variant of her usual quirky romantic heroine with underarm hair. When something different (and better) comes along, these films are usually indies that lack the support of a studio-driven publicity machine and, of course, the funding that comes along with it. Eli Roth talks about one such film:

I had a great time Wednesday night at the premiere of Adam Carolla’s movie The Hammer. My friend Kevin Hench wrote the film, and his wife Heather Juergensen, who is also a dear friend, stars in it. Carolla’s had me on his show before and he’s a really, really nice guy, so I was happy to come out and support them. I know I am biased, but I have to say, it’s fucking awesome.

In addition to their acting and writing duties, Corolla, Hench, and Juergensen all worked their asses off to raise the funds to make this film. Yet, more work awaits:

They showed the film at the Tribeca film festival last year, and despite the fact the audience went crazy for it, distributors hedged at picking it up because they were concerned that Adam was not a movie star. So they are SELF-DISTRIBUTING. This is extremely expensive and risky, but they believe in the film so much and having seen it I highly recommend it to EVERYONE. It’s really, really, really funny and when you see it you are supporting the independent artists and proving that we don’t need bloated, watered down crap at the cinemas. I would cast Adam in a film in a heartbeat.

The Hammer is showing in selected cities. Go check it out if you can, and on Monday at 9:30 AM PST, Eli will appear on Corolla’s radio show to discuss the film’s specifics.
