Evel Knievel died last week of complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a disease he’d suffered from for years. It was a sad ending for a man who would have preferred to die while trying to jump a motorcycle across a pool of flaming gasoline filled with electric eels and hammerhead sharks in asbestos wetsuits. But his funeral promises to be the kind of action-packed exit Evel would have wanted.
The service will open with a fireworks show Sunday night, followed by a public viewing and memorial service on Monday at the Butte Civic Center. Officiating at the funeral will be televangelist Robert Schuller, who hosts The Hour of Power from the Crystal Cathedral in Orange County, and who baptized Knievel last year. A spokesman for the city of Butte said they were expecting the crowd to include “a little bit of everything. You’ll see people in suits. Others will be in motorcycle apparel. Whatever people choose will be appropriate.” A really appropriate conclusion to the service would have involved catapulting the coffin into the grave over the backs of thirteen Greyhound buses, but it still sounds like it will be a memorable event.

I have been suggesting that his coffin be catapulted into the grave – dug at the bottom of that canyon he failed to jump.
My suggestions have not generally been found to be amusing. Pity.

Sharks with frickin’ laser beams on their heads!
There’s also that space burial thing. That’s something he hasn’t tried.
Too bad Hunter Thompson already used the whole getting shot out of a cannon thing.
