Some folks have asked me why I haven’t mentioned this huge, damning lawsuit that has been filed against Scientology (and Tom Cruise). So, I’ve wasted invested a few hours poring through court documents for the zillions of Scientology lawsuits to date, which I hoped would uncover some quasi-precedent that could potentially apply to the (now familiar) $250 million federal RICO lawsuit against the Church of the Poison Dwarf:
In court papers provided to The [NY Daily] News by investigator Paul Barresi, Letterese claims a member of the church phoned his lawyer at home, and when the lawyer’s wife answered, said he was her husband’s homosexual lover.
Barresi, who has done investigative work on behalf of Cruise, tells us: “[Letterese] is just including a celebrity name to get attention.”
Letterese calls the church a “crime syndicate” and wants it broken up under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization law, just as the feds have broken up Mafia families.
The official response from the cult is just standard lawyer crap, which is that this suit is “frivolous” and (non)meritorious. Conveniently, these so-called papers arrived at the above source via someone with ties to the Cruise, and so NY Daily News only got the sanitized version of the suit. For PR reasons, the cult put their half-version of things out there, in the vaguest of terms, to make the plaintiff look like a gold-digging schmuck. The real information hasn’t, and may never, be brought to the forefront, so I really have nothing to say about this suit in particular.
I do have a (solely opinionated) hunch though. So, if you want the boring crap, hit the next page:

In other news…. Anonymous has orchestrated a massive dox drop to the FBI of the cult’s harassment, private investigators and bogus “cease and desist” letters; and the August 16th global protest will be something. Stuff in the works. For your enjoyment…

Amazing stuff. I think if nothing else we may have seen the high water mark of Scientology, celebrities won’t enjoy having their pictures in videos like that one. Tom Cruise is pretty much screwed, he is tied so strongly to the organization that he’ll go down with it (or at least his career). Others probably are not that dumb.
…this suit is “frivolous” and meritorious.
Erm? Perhaps you mean “meretricious”. Or perhaps it was a freudian slip.
Hell, I don’t know what I meant other than “lacks merit,” but I forgot to type “nonmeritorious,” which isn’t even really a true word in the English language. Yet the profs used that word all th time.
Dang.
It’s been a few years since I graduated law school, and I’ve been trying to regain my common sense ever since.
