Grown Up Dolls With A Price To Match

By Bedhead in Adverts, Television

Mad Men Barbies

It’s a match made in advertising heaven. Mattel has secured licensing from Lionsgate to transform Barbie and Ken into “Mad Men”-styled dolls. The four characters to be immortalized as such are Joan Holloway, Roger Sterling, Don Draper, and Betty Draper. Naturally, these are premium dolls that will be priced at around $74.95 each and will be available at both amctv.com and barbiecollector.com. Now, I bet this guy will quickly snatch a set of these dolls… for research purposes, of course.

I’m tempted to say WTF about what they’ve done to Joan Holloway, but looking at Roger Sterling is worse. Who the hell was the model for that doll because it damned sure wasn’t John Slattery.

It would be a decent consolation prize if Sterling was based upon Anderson Cooper, but it looks like they just capped Ken Doll’s face with some “silver fox” hair.
