Few people can kick ass onstage, armed only with a with a bottle of water, as Henry Rollins can do. Of course, I don’t really jive with Rollins’ political views, but I can overlook this because there are very few people that I actually jive with, politically speaking. The fact of the matter remains that Rollins is one hell of a storyteller, and, if you missed catching him on last year’s spoken word tour, you can still read up on many of these same marvelous tales in a limited edition (1000 copies) of Rollins’ new book, A Preferred Blur, which is just about to receive the mighty smackdown by Henry’s mighty autograph pen:
The first edition of the book is different than the retail version. Besides the fact that I will be signing and numbering them, the limited edition features a color photo insert. This is the first time we have ever done this. The normal retail version will have black and white photos. The limited version has a black cover that matches the limited version of A Dull Roar, the retail version will have a green cover. The limited version is mail order only and will not be sold to retail outlets. The contents of both editions are the same, of course but if you want the signed, limited edition, this is the time to jump on it as they will go quickly.
I know I have told you all this too many times but A Preferred Blur is journal entries and travel stories from late 2006 to the last day of 2007. It takes in travel to Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, the benefit show I did with The Ruts in London and many other tales of jetlag and high adventures on the great seas of consequence.
Oh hell, even if you hate politics, this book is worth it just for the stories of Rollins stepping onstage with his punk heroes, The Ruts, for whom he displays some serious fanboy adoration. Since I was fortunate enough to have a few words with the fellow after one of last year’s shows, I can certainly empathize with the humbling experience of looking up to someone and then actually meeting them. Then again, if there is a height differential involved, one actually ends up looking down at the other. Bygones.

What are his political views?
[...] Henry Rollins FTW – ABH [...]
[...] Henry Rollins, original (AgentBedhead) [...]
Rollins is a liberal. So Bedhead is a right winger?
So quick to assume, aren’t we?
There’s more than just the left/right dichotomy to work with, if you really think about it.
No, there isn’t, and Libertarianism doesn’t count. Ayn Rand sux.
Anyone *coherent* (i.e. not max thraxg… Ayn Rand was explicitly not a libertarian) know what Rollins politics are?
And yes, ‘left/right’ is utterly meaningless. The One (‘left’) is massively expanding the state, is toying with civil conscription and has zero time for constitutionally limited government, whereas Dubya (‘right’) massively expanded the state and had zero time for constitutionally limited government, and had McCain (‘right’) won, he had promised to massively expand the state and has zero time for constitutionally limited government. Yeah, great selection of choices. Election are more or less “feel empowered because you get to chose your rapist”.
