I hadn’t actually heard of OC Weekly before now, but someone on the staffBen Westhoff, if in fact that is his real namedeserves a Pulitzer in the fiction category. This story about thuggish rapper Lil Wayne hooking up with Zac Efron to write a rap version of High School Musical is pitch-perfect surrealism. In a world where Mimi can insist on a personal attendant to dispose of her chewing gum, does it really sound implausible that Lil Wayne might have a full-time attendant to keep him supplied with Juicy Fruit? And the strong hints that the rapper and Zac Efron have a relationship that would make Vanessa Hudgens deeply unhappy are one of those stories that, if not true, really ought to be:
“Zac and me was both in San Francisco a few months ago for a comic book convention or something, and we met at an afterparty at some bar,” he says, pausing to break down pieces of pungent pot to roll into a joint. “To get away from these girls that was chasing him, he ducked into the bathroom and I followed him in there. I was like, ‘What’s crackin’, my brother from another mother?’”
The writer didn’t really lose me until the end, when Lil Wayne announced that he was working on “something for the new Raffi album.” But if a hip-hop version of High School Musical featuring “giant spliffs of marijuana and boasts about receiving sloppy fellatio” gets released in the next few months, I won’t be totally surprised.
