In today’s least surprising and newsworthy development, Ben and Jerry’s will not be releasing a flavor dedicated to Amy Winehouse. The neo-hippie entrepreneurs sell plenty of Cherry Garcia and Phish Food, and last month they did a limited release of Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road in honor of Elton John’s (sorry, that’s Sir Elton) first concert in Vermont. Amy, however, doesn’t make the cut. As co-president Jerry Greenfield delicately put it:
I’m not sure that Amy has the proper image that Ben & Jerry’s wants to be connected with.”
Of course, this shouldn’t deter truly devoted fans. An Amy Winehouse Special would be easy enough to make right in your own home. Start with a root beer float, but leave out the root beer and pour yourself a tall frosty glass of vodka. Throw in some horse tranquilizers for that extra kick. Add a couple of scoops of ice cream—any flavor, you’ll never taste it anyway—and top off with a generous sprinkling of crack and crystal meth. Add a few cigarette butts for garnish, and dig in. Sure, you’ll be barfing like a poisoned hyena before you’re half finished, but that’s an integral part of the Amy Winehouse culinary experience.
