
Aside from bringing in cash by the dumptruck-load, The Dark Knight is inspiring the sort of fan devotion that tends to mark a movie as a potential classic. Still, few fans have gone to the lengths of Bob Pullam, who walked out of the theatre, stepped into his garage, and emerged after an indefinite period with a working Batman Tumbler that he built himself. Pullam insists the project was a labor of love:
No, not building this to sell. You wouldn’t want to sell this if you had one, believe me. It’s a once in a lifetime project.
Much as I lust to drive the Tumbler, it’s probably best that it’s not for sale because that thing is a case of road rage waiting to happen. If I owned a Tumbler, I probably couldn’ drive six blocks to 7-Eleven without succumbing to the temptation to crush a couple of Honda Civics along the way.
