This might be really good or really, really bad, but I think we can safely exclude mediocre. Hollywood Gang, the corporate producer behind 300, has bought the option for The Last Christmas, a graphic novel by Gerry Duggan and actor Brian Posehn. Here’s a plot summary from Amazon.com:
After the apocalypse, no one is safe; not even at the North Pole. After tragedy strikes, Santa withdraws from life and turns his back on Christmas. When he finally emerges from seclusion, the old world is gone forever, and as Santa struggles to find his way in a post-apocalyptic world, can he find a way to save Christmas too?
Other sources suggest that Santa becomes drunk and suicidal after the death of Mrs. Claus, but is unable to kill himself because one stubbornly optimistic little boy still believes in him. Santa’s initial motive for “emerging from seclusion” is to find the little boy and kill him, so that he can finally rest in peace:
So: On the one hand, a plot that sounds like Santa Claus Conquers the Martians with rabies. On the other, it’s the production team behind 300. It will be interesting to see how this develops.
