The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced that Iggy Pop’s proto-punk outfit, The Stooges, shall join their Class of 2010 inductees, along with ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, Hollies, and Genesis. The induction ceremony shall take place on March 15, 2010 at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria hotel, and while I’m thrilled to see Iggy & his boys rise to their deserved honour, it’s too bad that it didn’t happen earlier.
Last year, the Stooges were on the nomination short list but not one of the lucky few inducted, and, a few months later, founding Stooges member Ron Asheton died of a heart attack. Ah well, no one ever said Rock and Roll was timely, right? Damn.

Making the R&R Hall of Fame is like winning the Academy of Motion Pictures Lifetime Achievement Award: it means you have one foot in the grave
