In Retrospect, Not a Complete Surprise

“Jackass” star Steve-o has finally confirmed what most of us have always suspected—the craziness wasn’t really a joke. Police arrived at the prankster’s apartment yesterday to arrest him for cocaine possesion, but before long Steve-o found himself in the hospital under a 5150 hold (the same 72-hour hold that kept Britney in the hospital). Steve-o’s status was subsequently upgraded, if that’s the word, to 5250, meaning he can be held for up to 14 days.

Steve-o is keeping in touch with his fans through his blog, which his assistant is updating with material Steve-o is writing during his involuntary time-out. Some of it is surprisingly lucid:

I suppose it is an ironic “eye for an eye” situation that I am in, coping with the lowest “lows” that I’ve ever experienced—as a form of punishment for the emotional distress that I have put my loved ones through with the self-destructive behavior that led me here….
I hope that I haven’t disappointed too many of my fans. Actually, ya know what? Anyone that is disappointed by any of these words really doesn’t matter to me. I’ve harmed myself to no end for those people (at the expense of my loved ones), and look where it got me.

Stong words. Strong, well-nigh sensible words from a guy with no reputation at all for being sensible. If Steve-o pulls himself together and gives up the idiocy that made him famous, it will be the greatest stunt of his career. But before you get your hopes up, notice that he stands by his comments in this clip, although he admits, “I happened to be under the influence of a very dangerous amount of drugs when it was filmed.” The man’s got a ways to go before you could call him healthy, much less sane.
