Iron Man 2 finally hits the theatres next Friday, so Robert Downey Jr. and his pals will be ubiquitous on the talk show circuit for the next week or so. Luckily, Downey is a master at this sort of thing, as he showed at a brilliantly hilarious press conference Friday afternoon. Downey is so awesomely cool that he almost is Tony Stark, minus the technical skills and the ability to build anything useful. Indeed, it’s a measure of Downey’s awesomeness that it can survive months in close proximity to the withering aura of Gwyneth Paltrow. Not only that, he could even find it in himself to endorse her nitwit website:
I think a hero is someone who if they’re abroad or traveling they go to the Goop website to find out what restaurants to go to, what clothing shops they might enjoy and what sights they should see and they do that not fearlessly but they do it in spite of their fear.
A plug from Robert Downey Jr.? That’s almost enough to make reading GOOP seem like a somewhat cool and attractive activity. Okay–it’s not enough. But a revelation from God Almighty telling me that non-readers of GOOP risk an eternal torment of pitchforks and red-hot coals and reruns of The View couldn’t make me log onto the site, so this is probably the best plug GOOP will ever get. Then again, in the same interview Downey also claimed he was dressed as a superhero shortly before his arrest in Pam Springs, so it’s just possible he was jerking us off.

Love it. Gwyneth is so dumb, she probably took that as a compliment. Ah, GOOP readers are so brave! And so vapid!
He is joking us.
Yes, but not about the fear factor.
