John Cusack’s Childhood Is All a Big Blur

By Mr. Atoz in John Cusack

Arianna Huffington probably thought she’d scored quite a coup when she convinced talented but notoriously surly Chicago native John Cusack to write the inaugural post for her latest project, Huffington Post Chicago, but things went downhill fast. Cusack meant to write a brief, inoffensive paean to his home town. Instead, the 700-word post was so riddled with errors that Cusack was probably lucky to spell “Chicago” correctly. Think I’m joking? He did, after all, manage to misspell Michael Jordan’s name.

John’s bland little post became a target in both the blogosphere and the mainstream media. The errors have been fixed (and, in keeping with the Huffington Post’s free-exchange-of-ideas policy, all critical comments have been deleted), but perhaps Cusack will be a little more cautious before venturing into opinion posts. Considering some of the earlier examples of his work, that might not be a bad idea.

Maybe — I’m gonna go out on a limb here — he should stick to acting. He’s about as qualified to write political commentary as I am to star in a remake of “Better Off Dead”.

I admire the hell out of John as an actor, but offscreen he seems neither smart nor nice. Probably for the best that we’re never likely to meet.

Incidentally, John hated “Better Off Dead.” So he’s not even a very good critic.

How does he hate that movie?

I used to really like him. Then he started opening his mouth.

I’m not sure you guys are qualified to define “nice”.

Since he’s an actor, I’m going to assume that his political opinions are just like “Better Off Dead”: cheap entertainment and not to be taken seriously.

harmony: I never claimed to be nice. Honest, though. Usually.

Hey, I might not be nice, but I know nice when I see it. It’s a great quality for other people to have.

Given HuffPo’s track record, Cusack’s post was probably only about the 15th least-coherent thing written there.

I think the great and good Arianna should have had to pay John for doing that.
