Kevin Federline, Culture Warrior

By Mr. Atoz in Kevin Federline, Music

kfedIt makes my skin crawl just to write this, but I’m starting to find a couple of things to like about K-Fed. First, his appearance on Monday Night Raw getting body-slammed by John Cena, not to mention his Superbowl ad, showed that the oafish little creep had a saving ability to laugh at himself. Then he took care of the kids and gave Britney a little support while she checked into rehab to give her brain a much needed steam-cleaning. Now, it looks like his album Playing with Fire might have helped to bring about the complete destruction of rap.

I don’t intend to expose my sophisticated musical tastes to the gripings and carpings of our many readers. (Nobody makes fun of my extensive collection of Yanni and Wham! vintage LPs.) Let’s just say that in general rap doesn’t do much for me, not as a noise and not as a social statement. So the news that rap sales declined by 21 percent from 2005 to 2006 is, umm, music to my ears. Sure, the article lists other causes for the slump’older fans who aren’t as thrilled by the gangbanger lifestyle, more vacuous lyrics, stuff like that’but an album as disastrously bad as Playing with Fire just had to play a role in shark-jumping on this scale. Besides, destroying the genre while pretending you want to become a rapper would be sneaky and underhanded. And no matter how well he behaves, K-Fed is and always will be a shifty little rodent.

I dunno how responsible KFed can be for anything, whether it’s a good or bad thing. Maybe white trash in general is more to blame or even the ever-increasing Hispanic population in America, but I’m not gonna talk about the latter for obvious reasons.

Back when NWA burst onto the scene, blacks were still arguably disadvantaged folk, culturally speaking. They had legitimate stuff to complain about….but they are no longer seemingly stuck in the hood. The white trash folk have lowered the bar and thusly populated the lower-income areas of the city, which causes all decent black people to flee in fear. It’s hard to be so angry at society when one cannot blame their crappy financial status on the colour of their skin, and no one buys records from a cheery rapper.
