Good news for “Late Show” staffers who aren’t in the picket line. Deadline Hollywood has reported that, if the writers’ strike continues, David Letterman has committed to paying his staff through the end of the year:
“Dave’s not doing this to get good press, which is why it hasn’t been reported for almost two days,” a source tells me. “This is really significant because, as opposed to all of the other shows, this money comes out of Dave’s own pocket.”
So why else would Dave agree to foot the bill?
10. CBS is too cheap to pay the Late Show’s non-writing staff during the writers’ strike.
9. Blowing $100,000 per night is easier than going out and finding hookers.
8. That creepy announcer Alan Kalter is threatening a clothing strike.
7. Playing gin rummy all alone in the Ed Sullivan theatre just isn’t the same.
6. Obviously, Dave is better than Oprah.
5. On hiatus, no one can see you dress up as Sally Jessy Letterman.
4. Perhaps Drew Barrymore will hear of his kindness and stop by to flash him again.
3. Now, he knows that hours of work go into writing Dave’s so-called fan mail.
2. Dave’s mom threatened to take his allowance away if he didn’t play nice.
1. . . . because he’s rich!

And I figured it was because he isn’t funny…?
Well, he isn’t! Not in in the last fifteen or twenty years.
Well, I ♥ Dave Letterman.
So there.
