While browsing the IMP Awards, I came upon this curious thing called Love Songs of a Third Grade Teacher, which is supposedly “the true version of the character in the movie ‘School of Rock’.” According to the movie’s website, this is an indie film set to premiere at Sundance, and it’s been both written and financed by Sabrina Stevenson, who also plays herself and supposedly takes the “DIY punk rock ethic” to filmmaking. All of that sounds lovely, but, unfortunately, I really hated School of Rock. Also, there’s this troubling synopsis:
This is the true story of Sabrina Stevenson, a Third Grade Teacher and the lead singer of her own rock’n roll band “Third Grade Teacher”. Watch this extraordinary story of an every day girl trying to make things work for her. Between class room and stage this teacher finds out what’s really important for her.
While on her way to stardom this school teacher isn’t making any compromises, or is she? With her friends one by one getting married and having babies Sabrina realizes that rock’n roll isn’t all there is to life. Follow Sabrina through Los Angeles on her search for love. Can she succeed and not give up on her first love: Rock’n roll?
Hmm. Well, I checked out the trailer, and I’m still not convinced that this will be an extraordinary and compelling story, but doesn’t this chick look great in that skirt?

The skirt’s interesting, but not interesting enough to sit through the movie you’re describing.
I found “School of Rock” kind of creepy, and kept waiting for him to get arrested for impersonating a teacher, which I still think would be a far more realistic outcome than what transpired in the movie.
To answer your final question: not really, no.
