Or at least she blogs like one. Lily Allen gets so much crap for her public misbehavior that at times you could almost sympathize with her, if only the stunts she pulls weren’t so damn stupid. Lately she’s been making a bid for respectability by becoming the public voice of reason in the public downloading controversy, currently a hot topic in the UK. Lily’s using her new blog It’s Not Alright to support proposed legislation that would drop the hammer on illegal downloaders. Repeat offenders could face heavy fines, or even have their internet accounts suspended. Not everyone supports this approach–like I said, it’s controversial topic. But Lily has been defending her position aggressively, and even fairly articulately. Pity she had to pirate someone else’s words to do it:
A post made under Allen’s name on the weekend was a direct copy of an article written by journalist Michael Masnick a few days earlier on Techdirt, with no attribution. The headline, sub-headline and first 135 words of the post are identical to Masnick’s. At the bottom, Allen appended three sentences of her own.
No word yet on how Lily’s going to explain this faux pas, but I expect her to come back with some pithy comment about not asking what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country. Wait a minute–I said that. At least, I’m pretty sure I did. I might have to sue.
