Madonna has parted ways with Maverick Records, the record label she founded 12 years ago. In doing so, she consented to Warner Music’s (owners of 40%) purchase of her 60% ownership.
Madonna has now agreed to let Warner Music executives buy her out of her contract - just months after Maverick took legal action against the firm and its former parent company, Time Warner, alleging breach of contract and mismanagement.
Warner Music responded by filing its own lawsuit against Maverick.
If only all lawsuits could end in such a clean, equitable, and (most importanty) liquid manner. However, it’s odd for Madonna to just roll over like a submissive little girl. We suspect she’s more interested in her budding career as the future Martin Scorsese:
Madonna has just started filming her directorial debut, Filth and Wisdom. A Madonna fan with a Soho office was approached by one of her producers to see if Madge could use the space as a film location. He obviously said yes, told all his friends and waited to meet his idol. The film crew came, blocked off the street and, frankly, got in every-one’s way. Finally, hours later, the Madonna fan found the producer and asked when the director would be coming on set, only to be met with the heart-breaking answer, “she didn’t feel the need to be out with the crew at this point”.
As a small silver screen lining, at least Madonna has resigned herself to a life (not) behind the camera rather than in front of it.
