Ah, the internets and their propensity for driving unlikely rumours into things of absolute certainty. You know, I sorta have this theory that the internet is in fact a testing ground for casting purposes and/or determining the feasibility for film sequels. Well, this little tidbit may serve both those purposes, for word on the cyberstreet is that Megan Fox has been tapped as the new Lara Croft in a (needless) Tomb Raider sequel:

There are internet rumblings that the 22-year-old actress – and Sexiest Woman in the world, according to one lad’s mag – is a firm favourite to take on the role first brought to the big screen by her older counterpart in 2001.

Perfect pouts and tumbling dark locks aside, these two screen sirens share a lot in common – most famously, both have spoken about past same-sex daliances and both have scribed their bodies with tattoos.

The younger actress even told reporters recently that she would love to lock lips with the Changeling star.

Megan has been attempting to channel Angelina Jolie for quite some time, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this rumour’s source just happens to be a certain publicity team hoping to mold the younger starlet into, well, something she isn’t. If Megan doesn’t get to wear the tomb raider outfit, perhaps that nude, arty thing could come to fruition as a consolation prize. One can hope, no?
