In retrospect, Fabrice Morvan and Rob Pilatus of Milli Vanilli really did look quite uncomfortable holding those Grammy awards. Now their fall from respective grace is about to be transformed into a movie written by Jeff Nathanson, who penned the script for Catch Me If You Can. Universal Pictures apparently ran out of decent ideas and figured that “Girl You Know It’s True” (1989) was good fodder for a cinematic plotline.
Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety said the film had the backing of former member Fabrice Morvan and the estate of colleague Rob Pilatus who died in 1998.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the notion of fakes and frauds, and in this case, you have guys who pulled off the ultimate con, selling 30 million singles and 11 million albums and then becoming the biggest laughing stocks of pop entertainment,” Variety reports Nathanson as saying.
If Universal is looking for a fraudulent perspective then perhaps the script writer should also talk to Pete Doherty. That’s just a passing thought.
