Oh, that Lars von Trier is just so edgy. Such a calculated stance often creates an (arguably) unjustified interest in one’s work, but it also creates certain unavoidable difficulties. After those marketing geniuses tasked with pimping von Trier’s Antichrist covered the controversial poster quota, the decision was made to call in a much subtler poster for Austin’s Fantastic Fest. Of course, this tactic is rather understandable when it comes to Texas audiences as opposed to the arthouse crowd, but I imagine there were a few people caught unaware when Charlotte Gainsbourg whipped out her scissors for an impromptu clitorectomy. Also, someone totally forgot to include the infamously horrible CGI fox within this poster, so we’ve provided a rather adequate substitute. This isn’t an exact match, but you get the idea, right? Instant hilarity.

I may or may not know someone who may or may not have an illegal copy of Anitchrist (no, they really don’t — or do they?) and supposedly the CGI fox is both hilarious and terrifyingly jarring.
The person who absolutely doesn’t have an illegal copy of that film offered to let me watch it, but to be honest I’m way too squeamish, despite how fascinated I am by the movie.
Heh. I have seen a clip with the fox but not the entire film. Since there’s no way in hell Tulsa will be showing this puppy in theaters, I’ll probably have to catch the full thing on DVD. Won’t be too long before that happens, I imagine.
SLC will be getting it, but I still haven’t decided if I’m going to see the thing or remain in a state of blissful ignorance. Von Trier’s actually quite a talented filmmaker. Shame that he’s such an awful human being.
