As many blogophiles have noticed, the kingdom of Munuvania has suffered a flesh wound due to a DOS attack. Pixy posted the gist of this on Ace Of Spades, which is going down intermittently as well, and not in a good way, if you know what I mean. Hence this post.

Munu is on two servers, and most of the blogs are on one server. A few blogs that are especially vulnerable to being targeted in DOS attacks are on a server with very few blogs (hereinafter known as the “Ace” server) - so that ideally, this sort of thing would not affect most munuvians.

The problem is, the DOS attack is (strategically?) targeted at the server carrying the vast majority of munu blogs. Pixy has been moving blogs over to the Ace server. This takes a crapload of time though, with all the munu blogs in question. It also tends to crash the Ace server repeatedly until the process is complete.

Updates might find their way to the MuNu Emergency Blog, but I imagine Pixy’s been a bit busy. This useless panic button may help to alleviate some nervous energy of blogophiles who cannot reach their favourite blogs. If that doesn’t work, then just SCROLL DOWN to view Jodie Marsh’s boobies.

As I mentioned earlier, on Saturday mu.nu was hit by a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS), which took out one of our servers, Yuri - the server that hosts most of our blogs. I posted here because Ace’s blog is hosted on a different server and was one of the few blogs still up.

I moved all the blogs to our other server, Kei, and after a few hiccups, we were up and running again.

About sixteen hours ago there was a brief attack on Kei, and then four hours ago the attack resumed in full force, taking out pretty much everything.

With the help of our hosting providers I have now firewalled off enough of Eastern Europe and East Asia that the servers are more-or-less coping. I’ll need to keep a constant watch on things though.

I think - just maybe - we may have pissed somebody off.
